Scouts treat seniors to a prom
Cadette Girl Scout Troop 658 recently hosted Under the Stars Senior prom at Lighthouse Pointe.. This event was a vital part of the girls earning their Silver Award. Three years in the making the girls put in 50 hours of volunteer time in preparation toward this night. The girls funded the activity by holding a garage sale the Summer of 2011. They used the money to purchase and make flower arrangements for the tables. They made corsages/boutonnieres, blew up 200 balloons for a balloon arch, purchased decorations, painted picture frames to give as souvenirs along with a picture of each resident in attendance and they bought and prepared food for the evening. They also paid for and booked a D.J. for the evening. They enlisted the help of young men from Grassfield High School Dynamis Hi-Y to dance with female residents and the Girl Scouts. They made flyers to advertise the event as well. Alan Krasnoff, Mayor of Chesapeake was in attendance. He graciously spent time talking and dancing with the residents as well as taking time to address the audience. The highlight of the evening was when the girls randomly drew the names of those in attendance and crowned Mr. and Ms. Lighthouse Pointe. They were presented with crowns, capes, and sashes and Ms. Lighthouse Pointe also received a bouquet of flowers.
